Project VisionThe Sunset Catalog was in need of an update, both in terms of new products and in lay out. It had been some time since it had a layout update and both customers and the sales team found the current one, which broke every page into three columns and simply listed each product one after the other difficult to use and unpleasant to look at.

Challenges1.) Review industry competitors for trends. See what elements they are using, figure out why they are or are not working for them.
2.) Without increasing the page count, find a layout that better works for customers and sales in functionality. 3.) Update all infographic images to include products that better reflect current stock and interior design trends. |
Product Visuals
Through our research, we found that the best way to handle our information was to change the layout from a long list of products running through multiple columns to a layout with product images on the top half of the page with the product name and item code in either a more free form layout in our family pages or a grid of their own when set into the pages with the most product density, with their specifications listed in tables beneath to easily match between the visuals and data, allow the most information possible on the page while keeping everything legible. The same thought process went into the fan informational pages, but, due to the extra space available and size of the fan images, we were able to also add reference swatches for blade and motor housing finishes, diagrams, and accessory images.
Updating Informational Visuals
When performing the competitor audit, some of the biggest differences we found were the inclusion of supplementary pages and information. While we had previously listed and occasionally even shown when products were available in a variety of colors, we didn't have a complete list showing an example of these finishes anywhere in the catalog. We also noticed that many had a few pages with just images, especially in regards to new product that didn't list any specs but let people more easily compare looks in a quick way. Added to this the need to update visuals that used old models, we decided updating our supplementary pages was just as important as the product pages.
