The Whitaker Music Festival is an annual event held at the Missouri Botanical Gardens where patrons can visit the gardens, bring food, and enjoy musical performances from local musicians. Part of the preparation for the event is creating a new logo. Current interns are tasked with coming up with new looks that they then present to the team who chose the final design. That design is then applied across t-shirts, ads, flyers, and banners to advertise and generate funds for the garden. During the 2013 season I participated in the logo challenge and had one of my submissions chosen. This is a short overview of a few different logos I worked with, the winning logo, and examples of the logo being used for the event.
When designing the logos, we were asked to consider the visual aspect of being in the gardens in summer, the theme of music, and the fun tone of the event. With these in mind I decided to focus heavily on trying to intertwine flower and music imagery as best as I could for my logos, using a variety of plants, instruments, and musical notation.
