Project VisionMany apps claiming to help create task or chore lists can feel clunky and cumbersome in their use and design, especially when trying to create repeating lists or tasks, alarms, or specify priority. My goal was to create an easy to use but customizable task list app to assist people in organizing their time and lives.

Challenges1.) The main functional task button was the highest priority and focus. Using it needed to be smooth and intuitive for any level of interaction and easily customizable.
2.) Be able to easily replicate, cancel, save, and edit both tasks an lists in a variety of ways without overwhelming users . 3.) A big focus for the target audience were people with anxieties or other mental health issues that can get in their way of getting through a day. I wanted to be sure that everything from function to layout to color choices reinforced the ideas of serenity and control as much as possible. |
Research
Researching this challenge, I identified by core audience as mobile device users between the ages of 20-65 who are tech savvy and want to have a better chore list or task app experience. The research assisted in identifying our challenges of creating a calming, easy to use environment that functioned smoothly both out of the box and when customized.
When preforming a competitive audit, I looked at other task apps as well as apps focused on the mental health of users that allowed things from journaling, to mood tracking, to activity logging. Ultimately, seeing the task app as one branch of a larger mental wellness app is the goal, providing a single, streamlined option for users across a variety of needs. While not every feature audited made it into this initial version, I believe being open to seeing other options for future features helped guide those I ended up exploring for this app.

After usability studies, I streamlined the design throughout the app, wanting to create a friendlier look and feel. The home screen was replaced with a task list, which, if a user has many, can be specified in the list's settings as the home list. The edit screens were redesigned to offer confirm and cancel buttons at any point in the process and to add and adjust the form as the user decided they needed various pieces. With these edits in place I moved on to creating the final prototype and layouts for a responsive website.
